Downtown Olympia

The sun will shine just long enough to remind me of warmer places I've lived. It's great for the Olympia Artwalk. Yesterday when I was downtown doing the window at Doria's; I walked around and saw some graffiti / art in the one alley by Doria's. I could still smell the paint. There are some other artists that have some very interesting work. I really like that Olympia is OPEN to the arts.
The window looks good at Doria's I wish I could have had Fur, the movie about Diane Arbus playing somewhere along all the gowns, shoes and shiny things.

Nasa has released some images of galaxies colliding, I think they are awesome, could be some source of inspiration...

An Art Movie

I watched the movie My Kid Could Paint That. The movie is about Marla Olmstead age 4 & 5 at the time of filming. She does these abstract, Pollock and Basquiat type paintings, which are nice paintings. I do not think the father does them, which has been an issue for the media and Marla's collectors. What bothers me about the whole thing is her brother Zane he must feel so left out, since everything was Marla, Marla, Marla. I ( as a parent ) wonder about both kids psyches.
I would reccommend this movie to any artist. My favorite part was when they compared the 4 year old to Jackson Pollock, who in my opinion painted drunken temper tantrums!!! . The lesson to be learned from the movie................ IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MARKETING, make sure you have a HOOK.

Knitting and Recycled Clothing

I figured for todays post I would comment on other art forms. Knitting and recycled clothing. The purple wrap my mother knitted for me is beautiful; Isadora Duncan would be envious, it's over 6 ft. long, soft and a wonderful shade of purple. There are also flowers in the design/pattern. The dress I'm wearing in the other photo, was an unintended gift. It's a slip that has lace enhanced features. Some of the lace is antique. The dress is the creation of Nalo Hopkinson, the writer. I believe she still sells her craft on ETSY. I have placed a link to her blog with this post.

It's not always sunny in Olympia

It is a beautiful sunny day here in Olympia. I am down in the studio ( the Kat Kave ) painting. I have sent many press releases out for the Open Studio June 21st .I have had a few responses already. The Because of Wichita series is turning out to be somewhat popular and creating a bit of a stir; Which is what the paintings are to do anyway. I feel that what's the point of doing art if it does not stir something. The series is NOT intended to be SHOCK ART. I just want the viewer to get their own meaning, opinion and experiences from the pieces.

Spring

Well I have been busy working on the flyer for my open studio event June 21. I have a few designs drawn up, maybe I'll use them all. I will of course post on here.

I have found this very interesting site on creativity and the 32 traits of creative people. Http://www.cre8ng.com so check it out. Also, it's fundraising time on KPLU, if you listen to NPR then give something if you can.
